The movie deals with his troubles and the way he tackles issues leading to the ‘happily-ever-after’ scene

Baana Kaathadi  Tamil Movie Review :

Expectations ran high for 'Baana Kaathadi' as Atharva, son of popular actor Murali, is making his debut in Kollywood. Thanks to pacy screenplay and the good performance of the lead cast, the movie directed by Badri Venkatesh (a national award winner for one of his short films), ends up as an engrossing fare.

The debutant filmmaker has chosen to do a movie around kite-flying that is considered a passion in some parts of the country. At a time when Madurai has become a preferred destination for movie makers, Badri Venkatesh has narrated the story in a Chennai slum.

His detailing of life in north Chennai is realistic. The director should also be complimented for getting the best from all stars. Equally deserving credits is T G Thiyagarajan's Sathyajothi Films, for 'Baana Kaathadi' is whiff of fresh air among commercial cliches.

Ramesh (Atharva) is a plus two student living in Chennai slum. A passionate kite-flier, for Ramesh his kites are everything in life. He along with his group of friends spends all his time flying it.

Once when he goes running after a 'Rajinikanth' kite that flew off, he comes across Priya (Samantha), a fashion technology student. Interestingly her pen drive gets misplaced and goes with Ramesh.

Severely reprimanded by her college for losing the pen drive which has her project details, Priya manages to trace Ramesh. What begins as ruffled encounters between them ends up in friendship.

Eventually realising that he is in love with her, Ramesh goes to propose Priya. But an unfortunate incident leads to more trouble and Priya decides to leave him and go.

Meanwhile, more trouble awaits Ramesh. He witnesses a murder committed by local goon Ravi (Prasanna). Ravi is a good-natured youth, who warns Ramesh to leave the place and go elsewhere for he had now become a witness to the killing of an ex-MLA. What happens then in his life forms the rest.

Atharva deserves all credit for making a decent opening. He looks comfortable in front of the camera and does the job, that was expected of him, well. Samantha as fashion technology student is there to deliver a good performance. She looks pretty and does have more scenes to perform.

Prasanna as the menacing goon is a scene stealer. Karunaas as Kumar (friend to Atharva in the movie), evokes fun and laughter, while the likes of T P Gajendran and Monica as Atharva’s mother are adequate.

Yuvan Shankar Raja's songs are hummable while his re-recording sets the tone, especially for the kite flying scenes. The seasoned composer seems to have tried variety in terms of music and does bring out one of his best.

Due credit should be given to cinematographer Richard Mahesh, who captures the slums of Chennai well. The kite-flying scenes especially the ones at Gujarat have been canned colourful and catchy. What starts off as a breezy entertainer ends as an emotional pot boiler.

The Story : Thillalangadi is a Cop Flick, in which Jayam Ravi is playing the role of a betting master and Tamanna Bhatia is his love interest. Shaam is playing as an angry and honest cop and at one point both their paths meet and what happens then?

Thillalangadi Movie Review

Jeyam Ravi’s previous films with his elder brother Raja have been commendable remakes and Thillalangadi isn’t an exception. Director Raja has copied each and every shot from the original version Kick. Of course, the film has been delivered in an entertaining manner with the attempts of savoring the universal audiences. Kudos to Surendar Reddy: the maker of original version for crafting a commendable tale and gripping screenplay.

To be precise, Jeyam Raja can be doubtlessly ennobled as the ‘Best Remake Director’ for exactly replicating others’ ideas. Of course, Kick itself was inspired from Hollywood’s famous thriller Catch me if you can, but it was only with the plot. Thillalangadi isn’t different from Kick. The only difference is couple of additional songs.

Krishna (Jeyam Ravi) is a happy-go-lucky youngster, who often commits himself into risks as he feels the right Kick over it. Well for Nisha (Tamanna), what starts as a hatred turns into love with Krishna. But sooner as she finds her beau so irresponsible swapping jobs often, she breaks up with him. Sooner the story shifts to Malaysia, where Nisha’s parents arrange her marriage with Krishna Kumar (Shaam), a tough and honest cop. Krishna uncovers that he has traveled all the way to Malaysia to trap a smart thief, who has been looting crores of money from leading tycoons and politicians. The intriguing part of the film is about the fact that the thief is none other than Nisha’s ex-boyfriend Krishna.

Rest of the film is all about how Krishna wins back the heart of Nisha and the reason behind his robberies having a substantial reason.

The biggest problem with Thillalangadi is about each and every actor aping the characters of Kick. Be it the lead actors Ravi and Thamannah or Santhanam imitating Telugu actor Ali, it’s really absurd and Raja should have focused letting them act their own way. Tamanna looks cute, but again her imitation of Ileana could have been avoided. Just watch out for her gestures while performing aerobics as it’s too clumsy. Ravi looks cute and chirpy and his performance during last 45 mins is perfect. Vadivelu is good with his comedy tracks while Santhanam doesn’t get enough footage. Shaam is extraordinary with his mind-boggling acting. He looks fit and perfectly suits the role of a tough cop. It’s better if Shaam continues to choose such roles in future. Prabhu excels with his minimal role and Suhasini sleepwalks through her role. Radha Ravi evokes laughter with his dialogues. But the silliest part is about Raja copying even the lines ‘Jil Jil Jiga’ from Telugu as it is often uttered by Manobala (The reason ‘Jil Jil Jiga’ appears in Kick is that because the famous song in ‘Happy Days’ starts with these fancy words).

Just as mentioned before, Raja hasn’t strained him even to the least extent. The screenplay from the beginning till the end is the same as in Kick. At least Raja could’ve avoided the minuses of the original version as second hour is too long and sluggish except the flashback sequences and climax.

Musical score by Yuvan Shankar is okay while Rajasekhar’s cinematography is mediocre. Editing looks sleek and stylish.

On the whole, Thillalangadi is a family entertainer as it carries the right mix of fun, romance, sentiments, and action. Next time Raja makes a film, we request him to come up with his own ideas rather than remaking films.

‘Thillalangadi’ is the remake of Telugu film ‘Kick’ starring Ravi Teja and Ileana in the lead. The Tamil version will have Jayam Ravi and Tamannaah in the lead which is being directed by Jayam Raja. Vadivelu plays the comedy role played by Brahmanandam in the original. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is going good in the market. Prabhu and Santhanam play the prominent roles.

No sooner than the promotional activities have started a few days back Sun Pictures has announced that the film is all set for its release on July 23rd.

Sources say “Thillalangadi is a light-hearted comedy film till the interval. The twist comes in the second-half where the movie would all of a sudden take off as an action thriller. On the whole, it is going to be a wholesome treat.”

The Story : Ambasamudram Ambani revolves around Dhandapani, a truthful and loyal hard worker who dreams about becoming a big industrialist. With keeping Ambani as his Idle to follow.

Ambasamudram Ambani Movie Review

As the name suggests, this is a story of a simple soul from Ambasamudram who dreams big. Dandapani, (Karunas), who ran away to the city following his mother's accidental death, is a hard working soul. He finds work as a newspaper delivery boy on the intervention of Annachi, (Kota Sreenivasa Rao) an industrialist.

As he grows up he aspires to become a businessman like Ambani. It is a dream he cherishes fondly all the time. He believes his hard and sincere efforts will take him there. A kind soul too, Dandapani takes a beggar boy Karthi (Shankar) under his care. Karthi assists him at his work. Hoping to learn from the rich in the art of becoming wealthy, Dhandapani rents a room in a residential area dominated by the well to do.

In the neighbourhood lives Nandhini, (Navneet Kaur) with her parents. Her father (V.M.Haneefa) is bent on making her an IPS officer. He leaves no stone unturned in this process, much against her wishes though.

Coming up in the area is a shopping mall by Annachi. Dhandapani wants to buy a shopping space there for his future venture. And he offers his entire savings to Annachi. Initially not keen on allotting him space, Annachi finally relents. But on one condition, that is, his son should not know about it, until Dhandapani made the entire payment. Dhandapani is ecstatic. He agrees for he believes in Annachi and takes no receipt for the payment he makes. A cruel joke is played on him when the old man suddenly dies. Dhandapani has no proof of the payment made. So does he realize his dreams?

Watch the film for the climax. Also its message that goodness and kindness never go unnoticed. Sometimes it comes back to us in the most unlikely of situations. And of course that hard work always pays.

Karunas as the protagonist is quite good especially when it comes to emoting disappointment and hurt. Navneet, as his love interest looks more like an item number in her revealing costumes and dance numbers. Then there is Delhi Ganesh in his inimitable dignified style. Haneefa and Livingstone have been reduced to mere clowns. There is an overdose of comedy which borders more on sexual innuendos and slapstick. However, Karunas' music is good.
